Frank A Spring: Minnesota stories and the experience of moral injury
While the administration has declared the end of "Operation Metro Surge," the people of Minnesota are still facing the consequences of the last several months of tragedies, terror, and upheaval in their communities.
Altum partner Frank A. Spring joined host Terry White on the Better Minneapolis podcast to discuss the narratives the administration wanted to tell about Minneapolis, and the ways those stories failed.
On Trump's strategy of appealing to anti-immigrant sentiment:
"Spring argues that this strategy has not worked as planned in Minneapolis. He says many Americans are not strongly anti-immigrant but instead want an orderly and fair immigration system. When federal agents used force in Minneapolis and officials defended those actions, Spring believes it caused what he calls a 'moral injury.'
By that, he means people saw authorities harm others and then deny or misrepresent what happened. He says this deepened public anger and distrust, especially when videos and firsthand accounts contradicted official statements."
